Before the summer baseball season is over, I’d like to invite everyone in Grand Forks to attend an American Legion baseball game at our local Kraft and Montgomery fields. Our post has two teams, the Blues and the Royals, and they host many teams from surrounding cities.
Since the American Legion Club in Lancaster, Minn., closed two years ago, social life has suffered. So have organization fund-raisers that are the lifeblood of small towns. The result is that about $800,000 – more than $2,000 apiece for the 333 residents – likely will be spent to build a community center.
