The Federal Aviation Administration says it will close two air traffic control towers in Minnesota because of federal budget cuts. The agency announced the decision Friday, a month after it released a preliminary list of facilities that could be closed.
Grand Forks and North Dakota both saw record numbers of airline passenger boardings last year. Boardings at the Grand Forks airport were 15 percent higher in 2012 compared to 2011, according to the North Dakota Aeronautics Commission.
The House Transportation Committee heard mostly opposition to HB1033, which would require most state agencies to put their aircrafts into a statewide central aircraft management system that would be overseen by the Department of Transportation.
