UND FOOTBALL: Davis claims Great West title

UND FOOTBALL: Davis claims Great West title UC Davis — the only team to win on the road this season in the Great West Conference — made a few more plays than UND on Saturday, which resulted in the Aggies’ 28-20 win over the Sioux. The win clinched the Great West title for UC Davis.

Sioux search for marquee win

A year ago, UND left Aggie Stadium on the UC Davis campus with a 13-point loss. It took only a minute or two for the Sioux to realize they let the game against UC Davis slip away.

UND football notebook: Final seconds of first half prove pivotal PressPass

For the first 29 minutes and 27 seconds of the first half, UND was a flat football team — one staring at the possibility of losing to a second NAIA program at home this season. But the final 33 seconds of the first half erased that possibility.

UND football: Sioux survive, now eye title PressPass

UND football: Sioux survive, now eye title Well, it was a win. But that’s about as much as anyone can sugarcoat UND’s 30-24 win against Southern Oregon on Saturday in the Alerus Center, a victory before 7,253 fans that improved the Sioux to 5-4 but left a bitter aftertaste.

UND football: In search of more fans Sioux hope for bigger turnout in their final home game
One theory for the drop in attendance focuses on the timing of Sioux games. For the first time since 1952, UND did not have a September home game — which could be considered an out-of-sight, out-of-mind factor.

UND stuns No. 18 Cal Poly UND coach Chris Mussman tried to avoid it, but he couldn’t. His happy players tracked him down near midfield and gave him the Gatorade bath. Mussman had no change of clothes but he had no complaints, either, after UND stunned No. 18 Cal Poly 31-17 on Saturday in the Alerus Center before 6,711 fans — the smallest regular-season crowd to watch the Sioux play indoors in Grand Forks.

OUR VOICES A hefty buyout

If Montana decides not to play a return game at UND in 2013, it will be a costly buyout for the Grizzlies. UND's home-and-home football contract with Montana calls for a $100,000 buyout.
