Several cold fronts have sent the fish deeper, but they continue to hit jigs and frozen shiners over Bridges, Knight and the Garden island reefs and the deep mud of Big Traverse Bay in 25 to 33 feet of water.
A shortage of spottail shiner minnows is causing a ripple effect across north-central Minnesota, frustrating anglers and worrying bait dealers who rely on the fish for a significant portion of their revenue.
Limits of walleyes are being caught on jigs and frozen shiner minnows in 8 to 22 feet of water on the south end in front of both Lighthouse and Morris Point gaps, Pine Island, Zippel Bay and Twin Islands near Long Point.
Northwest Sporting Clays 200 Minnesota Circuit Shoot, Thief River Falls Trap Club and Northwest Sporting Clays northwest of Thief River Falls. First round of 100 begins at 10 a.m., and second round of 100 begins at 2 p.m.
