My Prostate & Me

So, there I was, going about my business, happy as could be, when my current wife Ginny says, "I think you should have a physical.  It's been a couple of years."  Like any other red-blooded American male I said, "No."   Part of my  "blood work"

Hill workout on the horizon

"We don't receive wisdom; we must discover it for ourselves after a journey that no one can take for us or spare us." - Marcel Proust Tonight I'm hoping for some good weather as a group of us are heading for the hills for a workout. Surprisingly, my legs are still really sore from this we

The best plans

For days I thought about kicking my marathon training off with a hilly 14-miler near Walker today, getting in my longest run since Grandma's Marathon while also benefitting from some long, gradual inclines. But after waking up this morning to the rain, I couldn't muster the enthusiasm to do it. Soo

Saint Urho wears a skort

So I finally made a decision last night that I'd get up early this morning and drive to Menahga to run in the Saint Urho Run 10K. It turned out to be a great morning for a drive, especially the stretch between Frazee and Menahga, which apparently is the "Gateway to the Pines." Menahga is

Learning curve

So far, I've had a few obstacles to clear in using my new Garmin 405, but I'm convinced that it will be for the best. I'll be going into my experiences with heart rate training in some future posts, but I am still on a learning curve in getting everything set up with the watch. To be more accurate,

Going high-tech

For months I've resisted the urge to buy a new running watch, complete with GPS and a heart monitor. But after months of straddling the fence, I finally purchased a Garmin 405 last night at Beyond Running. I'm pretty sure my training will benefit, especially from the heart rate monitor data, once I

Flash joins the party

After a weekend of sun and the beach, it was back to the real world today. But I had some help in the transition with an easy 7-miler this morning.
