I've been surprised at the number of local concert announcements I've heard in the last two days - which is always a good thing for us music lovers. Two upcoming shows in Fargo will bring big-name acts to the region, while a few Grand Forks concerts over the next couple weeks will pack a lot of local talent into the city's nightlife.

THE LIST: Lord of the Dance ... Chamber Music ... 'Footloose'

Tonight at the Fritz: Lord of the Dance, an Irish dance performance phenomenon, will begin at 7:30 tonight at UND’s Chester Fritz Auditorium. Created and directed by Michael Flatley and based on Irish folklore, the performance boasts two World Irish Dance champions and, since its 1996 debut, has been seen by more than 100 million people worldwide. Mintie Art: Opening Sunday in Devils Lake: Lake Region Heritage Center, Devils Lake, will display art works of Cindi Mintie from Sunday through Nov. 30. Cindi Finley Mintie earned a bachelor’s degree in photography at Minot State University and has concentrated in portraiture and digital prints, especially in preserving images of the past. Mintie has been featured in the “Photographers Forum Best of Collage Photography 2007” and received a Gold Addy for Ad Fed in 2003. She grew up in Rugby, N.D., and now resides in Minot.
