'Extremely dangerous' blizzards move into Midwest

A fierce winter storm was leaving dangerous ice, heavy snow and vicious winds in its wake as it slogged eastward today, threatening to wreak havoc on commuters in the Upper Midwest and closing schools across New England. The storm has affected 42 of the 48 mainland United States.
