Lillian A. Bina, age 91 of Park River, ND passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at the First Care Health Center of Park River, ND.

Lillian was born November 28, 1921 on the family farm near Pisek, ND the daughter of the late Joseph and Frances (Vrzal) Potocka. She was the fourth child of five in the family. She attended Pisek Public School. On June 5, 1939 Lillian was married to Rudolph Bina at St. John’s Catholic Church in Pisek.

Ruby V. Gunhus, 89, Grand Forks, ND, and formerly of Fairdale and Park River, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Bethany Homes in Fargo.

Ruby V.(Olson) Gunhus, was born February 29 , 1924 at Badger, MN, the daughter of Louis and Lena(Saage)Olson. She graduated from Park River High School and Mayville State Teachers College. She married Arthur Gunhus on December 26, 1947 in Park River. They farmed near Fairdale until 1976. Arthur Gunhus passed away on November 28, 2000.

Louise Irene Helgeson
Louise Irene Helgeson, 94, Grand Forks, died March 16, 2013, at Valley Eldercare. She had resided at the VMH homes since her serious accident in 1979.

Louise was born August 29, 1918, in Park River, North Dakota, the daughter of Ole and Birgette (Halldorson) Pederson. She graduated from the Walsh County Agriculture School in Park River and Mayville State Teacher’s College. She taught school in the Fordville area.

Ethel Selyna Hovland Harris, 86, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo, ND.

Ethel Selyna Hovland was born on June 27, 1926 in Lankin, ND, the daughter of Sivert and Emma (Askim) Hovland. Selyna grew up in Park River, ND, attended elementary school and Walsh Co. Agricultural High School, graduating in 1943. She attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, and graduated in 1947. While there, she met her future husband, Bennett Harris, who was also a choir member. Selyna married Bennett on June 20, 1948 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Park River. The couple moved to San Francisco, CA, where Selyna pursued a career in music. Bennett passed away on August 31, 1985.

Marion C. Samson, 88, of Grand Forks, ND, formerly of Park River, ND, passed away on Tuesday, March 12th, 2013, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.

Marion was born June 24th, 1924, in Minneapolis, MN, to John and Anna (Neste) Boese. She graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1941 and attended the University of North Dakota from 1941 to 1943. She completed X-ray technician training at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis in 1944 and then attended Aaker’s Business College in Grand Forks for one year. She worked at the Campbell-Williamson Clinic in Grand Forks from 1945 to 1948.

Louis J. Schufletowski Sr.
Louis J. Schufletowski Sr., age 68 of Park River, ND, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.

Louis Schufletowski, the son of the late Henry and Louise (Dvolety) Schufletowski, was born September 22, 1944 in Grafton, ND. He attended school in the area and graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School where he was active in both football and basketball. He then attended and graduated from the Hanson School of Mechanics in Fargo, ND. Following his education, he worked at the Base Exchange at the Grand Forks AFB for a short time. He was united in marriage to Sharon Simmons on November 20, 1965 in Grafton, ND. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Park River and he began working for his father-in-law at Claude’s Service Repair, and later for Torgeson Oil. He also worked for Kaps INC in Park River before becoming the Director of Environmental Services at the Good Samaritan Center. During his 28 years there, he was named the employee of the year twice, in 2006 and 2011. He retired in October of 2012.

Reverend Samuel O. Ezeibekwe
Father Samuel Ezeibekwe, 65, died unexpectedly at the rectory of St. John Nepomucene parish in Pisek on Sunday, March 10, 2013. He was born on April 2, 1947, in Anambra State, Nigeria. He studied for the priesthood and was ordained on June 30, 1979, for the Diocese of Awka, Nigeria. In 1991, Father Ezeibekwe came to the United States to pursue advanced degrees in religious studies and systematic theology.

Father Ezeibekwe began serving within the Diocese of Fargo in 1998. He served as parochial vicar at Holy Family parish, Grand Forks, from 1998 to 1999. He served as pastor of St. Lawrence O’Toole parish in Michigan with its mission parishes in Bechyne and Lomice, from 1999 to 2005. In 2005, Father Ezeibekwe was appointed pastor of St. John Nepomucene parish in Pisek, Sts. Peter and Paul parish in Bechyne, and St. Joseph parish in Lankin, and he was serving these three parishes at the time of his death. He was also Dean for Deanery IV, from 2005 to 2010.

Florice L. Ford
Florice L. Ford, age 95 of Fargo, ND and formerly of Park River, ND passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at the Sanford Palliative Care Unit of Fargo.

Florice L. Bakke was born July 7, 1917 in Golden Valley Township, Walsh County, ND, the daughter of the late Thorvald and Sophia (Ellingson) Bakke. She attended rural school in Golden Valley Township and graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River. Following her education she worked for the ASC office in Park River for eight years. Florice was united in marriage to David A. Ford on December 4, 1943 in Park River. The couple made their home in Park River and they farmed in the Park River area. David passed away on October 8, 1995 and Florice then moved to Fargo to live with her daughter Pat.

Winter Storm Eric, the fifth major storm of the year, swept through North Dakota on Monday, leaving behind up to a foot of snow in some areas. Counties in northeast North Dakota and northwest Minnesota remained under a winter storm warning until 6 a.m. Tuesday.
