MARILYN HAGERTY: On Syttende mai, an Uff da for the closing of the Bronze Boot
Dear Shirley, Even though we are Danish, I have to admit that the Norwegians think of everything. This is Syttende mai — the Norwegian Independence Day — and they are serving lunch from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at their lodge at 1401 Ninth Ave. S. in Grand Forks.

THE EATBEAT: North Side Cafe is home-style cooking kind of place
The tomato soup I ordered was good. It had that homemade quality with chunks of tomato in a milky base. The meatloaf sandwich was very large and a little too heavy on the salt.

THE EATBEAT: Dining in Manhattan’s Hudson Hall proves to be adventure
Hudson Hall was an adventure, maybe a middle-of-the-road meal in Manhattan. It was different. Some see the place as an elegant cafeteria. Others see it as “head-lamp” food.

MARILYN HAGERTY: In New York, hard core driver believes in being kind to people
Springtime brings new life, budding trees and carriages to Central Park
“Go on back to Jersey and learn how to drive!” That’s what our driver hollered when a car alongside us kept honking. We were on our back to LaGuardia Airport after a quick visit to New York this past week. “They can just keep beeping,” the driver said.

MARILYN HAGERTY: Teaching Tony and Anderson to play bridge
Marilyn almost can't believe she met celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain, who says he's publishing her book. Also, he wants to learn to play bridge and she aims to teach him. Anderson Cooper says he's interested, too. "Wouldn’t that be fun!" she writes.

THE EATBEAT: Hand-cut steak, free peanuts attract Texas Roadhouse diners
The sirloin had good flavor and was good enough. The green beans I ordered tasted good with bacon bits adding flavor. The broccoli and carrots were … well, broccoli and carrots. The baked potato SH ordered was a very good choice.

MARILYN HAGERTY: Detractors find Eatbeat pint short, tablespoon shy
Dear Shirley, They say that fame is fleeting. I thought it would have fled by now, but great things keep happening in the wake of my becoming viral. They tell me I am going back to New York. And arrangements are being made for me to work with the famed Chef Anthony Bourdain on a book.

RYAN BAKKEN: Eclipsed by Marilyn
While attending the Elton John concert Saturday night, I was surprised to see that Marilyn Hagerty never shared his piano bench. The concert stage also had a big video screen that, shockingly, never showed a single image of our food critic/hometown celebrity. Given her absence from the piano seat and the big screen, I figured that she instead was skating as a right wing on the UND hockey team in the regional in St. Paul. Wrong again. Not that I’m jealous. I have my gigs, too.

MARILYN HAGERTY: When a feller needs a friend, a trip to Italy helps
Dear Shirley, I never knew I had so many friends. They are coming out of the woodwork now that Anderson Cooper surprised me when I was in New York last week. At the end of his interview that was shown Tuesday, he said Celebrity Cruises is going to fly me and a friend to a 12-night luxury voyage along the Mediterranean. It would be aboard Celebrity Silhouette. Can you believe all this that has happened since I went viral, Shirley?
