Two Minnesota Republicans failed to make it onto the presidential ticket. Voters rejected efforts to enshrine in the state constitution a gay marriage ban and a requirement for presenting photo IDs at polling places. And Democrats took control of both houses of the Legislature for the first time since 1990 as politics dominated Minnesota's news scene in 2012.

Francis R. Daninger
Francis R. Daninger, 70 of Hoople, ND passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at the Jamestown Regional Medical Center of Jamestown.
Francis R. Daninger was born May 18, 1942 in St. Paul, MN the son of the late Charles and Gertrude (Redlickner) Daninger. He graduated from High School in Little Falls, MN. Following his education he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving in Vietnam. Following his discharge he worked as a financial officer in East Grand Forks, MN. Francis was united in marriage to Pauline M. Dubuque on November 6, 1965 in Sisseton, SD. He reenlisted in the Air Force and worked as an intelligence officer, retiring in 1988 after 22 ½ years of service. He later worked as a private contractor for the Department of Defense, retiring in 2004 and moving to Hoople, ND.

A Minnesota man charged with killing two teenage cousins who broke into his home on Thanksgiving posted bail and walked out of jail Tuesday. Byron David Smith, 64, of rural Little Falls, posted $50,000 cash and agreed to surrender his passport and guns to the Morrison County Sheriff's Office.
