Zombie Music Fest brings the walking dead to Grand Forks
Second annual event, featuring music, food, kids’ activities, expected to draw 1,500 people
A man stumbled through downtown Grand Forks on Saturday afternoon, his white T-shirt covered in blood and his face scarred and pale. But even as he limped silently and expressionless toward a group of playing children, nearby police officers simply smiled and looked on — there was no cause for alarm, as this was all part of the festivities of the second annual Zombie Music Fest.

AMERICAN CRYSTAL LOCKOUT: Union supporters place leaflets in stores
The multi-color fliers are folded in half, carry the words “consumer alert” and proclaim that American Crystal Sugar is “killing the American Dream.” The handouts contain QR codes that can be scanned by smartphones and include a link directing readers to a page on the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union’s website.

VIEWPOINT: It’s all about risk, sugar beet farmer says
As a fourth-generation beet farmer and also as a shareholder in American Crystal Sugar, I think that it is necessary to understand the investment that farmers have made in our cooperative and also the risk that all farmers face when they put a crop in the ground each spring.

American Crystal campaign workers, Grand Forks, letter: Has ACS forgotten about campaign workers?
As campaign workers for the American Crystal Sugar Company, we wonder if ACS has forgotten about us. We are factory workers who work 10 to 11 months of the year. We receive no medical or dental insurance. No disability insurance. No retirement pension plan or company-matched 401(k). We are 10-month workers who help keep the factory running — making sugar. We are instrumental in keeping sugar a lucrative commodity for production.

REVIEW: Buy, don’t ‘Rent’ tickets to Crimson Creek show
In the musical “Rent,” almost every word of the plot is sung, not spoken, and almost every song is a funny, soaring, thoughtful, sassy expression of people trying to make their marginal lives succeed in a world that cares little for their survival.
