Mallon’s novel is a White House look at Watergate
Blending tragedy and comedy, Mallon’s mesmerizing new novel “Watergate,” tells its tale slant. We never witness the June 17, 1972, break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters in the Watergate office-apartment complex in Washington, nor the subsequent Senate hearings, nor the special prosecutor’s investigation of Republican “dirty tricks” and White House cover-ups, nor the breathless newspaper coverage. Instead, we view events from the perspective of President Nixon’s embattled White House and that of his allies.

Agorafabulous!: Comedian breaks free of destructive anxiety
Sara Benincasa is one of my favorite comedians. If you are unfamiliar with her work, then please give it a bit more time; she is a comedy star on the rise. I eagerly anticipated Benincasa’s memoir, “Agorafabulous! Dispatches From My Bedroom.” Her humor is so very quick that it almost borders on being manic. She doesn’t abide sacred cows — anything is fair game. I expected this memoir to be hilarious.
