FACES: Leader of the band
Dave Bina, 60, retired last month after a 39-year-career as a public schools band director. After he started playing saxophone his junior year in a consolidated high school made up of students from Pekin, N.D., and Tolna, N.D., Bina enrolled at UND and majored in music. During college he played in the wind ensemble, jazz ensemble and was part of a group called the Varsity Winds.

Blizzards were in their second year at Dairy Queens here and all over. Dairy Queen was reported to have sold 175 million Blizzards in 1985 with prospects for twice as many sales in 1986. And that was in spite of the large fan base at the time for Haagen-Dazs ice cream.

FACES: Bandstand to be dedicated to longtime band director Chuck Lewis Friday evening
On Friday evening, Chuck Lewis, 93, will face the spotlight when the Cavalier Park Board dedicates its bandstand to him. The park board raised money during the past year to renovate the bandstand, which will be used for events such as concerts, plays and the annual Memorial Day Service.
