Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Ray Holmberg, R-Grand Forks, said Robert Kelley and Dean Bresciani weren’t the first campus leaders to say they had easy pitches to make because they support the budget. It’s a phenomenon he said prompted committee Vice Chairman Bill Bowman, R-Bowman, to jokingly comment that if everyone supports it, it must be “way too much money.”

Glen G. Knetter
Glen G. Knetter, age 77, resident of Lakota, ND, died Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Glen was born December 12, 1935 near Marathon, WI, the son of Anton and Amelia (Volhard) Knetter. He attended school in the Marathon/Edgar area, graduating in 1953 from Edgar High School. In 1957 he began operating his own cheese factory in Mason, WI. Glen was married to Darlene Meyers. He moved to Lakota in 1961 to operate a cheese factory there. He later opened a cheese factory in Medina, ND and Pilot Mound, Manitoba with his brothers. Glen was married to Beverly Schneider. He then began operating Knetter Trucking and the Bartlett Hog Farm. Glen married Donna Ahonen Larson on September 18, 1992. He was a lifetime member of the WI and ND Cheesemakers Association and served as president for the last 4 years that it was in existence. Glen retired from the cheese factory in 1995 after 30+ years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed golfing in his younger years, and in recent years he enjoyed traveling in his motor home.

Ruth Engen
Ruth Engen, 96, died Monday, December 17, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Heritage Grove in East Grand Forks, MN.
Ruth was born February 18, 1916 in Thief River Falls, MN the daughter of Andrew and Emma (Sanden) Jorde. She attended country school and graduated from Thief River Falls High School. She was married to Roland Christie in 1934. Roland died in 1935 shortly before the birth of their daughter, Roberta. Ruth married Lester Engen in 1940. They moved to Seattle, WA, where Lester worked at the shipyards during World War II. After the war, they returned to Thief River Falls, and in 1948 they moved to Bozeman, MT. Lester died in 1997. Ruth and Lester had three daughters. Ruth was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, a seamstress, an artist, and she lived in Bozeman until she moved to East Grand Forks in 2009.
