Janice was born May 8, 1926, in Walsh County, ND, the daughter of Richard Grzadzieleski and Demerise (Fortier) Grzadzieleski. She grew up, attended school, and spent her adult life in Drayton, ND. She worked at the Drayton Hospital, Drayton Drug, and Drayton Telephone Company in addition to seasonal farm work.
