PREP TRACK: Solheim hopes thinking less will bring better results
Hayley Solheim’s goal is to think a little less this weekend. The Crookston High School senior is hoping that will help her to a strong finish to her high school track season. Solheim goes into the Minnesota Class A girls high school track meet, which begins today in St. Paul, tied for the No. 8 seed in the shot put, as well as being seeded 16th in the discus.

I thought I heard someone say David Staveteig went to Alaska to help them make ice. Since it was the strangest thing I ever heard of, I called his wife, Brenda. She said that indeed was true. David makes ice for the U.S. Curling Association. And he went up to Fairbanks to help them prepare for a big bonspiel in April. The Alaskans do a lot of curling.

Bismarck Century and West Fargo spent most of the year at the top of the North Dakota Class A girls basketball poll. So something had to give Saturday when the top-ranked Packers played the No. 2 Patriots in the state championship game. Senior A.J. Jacobs hit two 3-pointers in the final two minutes to help Century to a 63-60 win over West Fargo at the Fargodome. It’s the Patriots’ second state championship in three years.

Heitkamp names campaign manager
Democratic U.S. Senate hopeful Heidi Heitkamp has named Tessa Gould as her campaign manager, she announced Tuesday. Gould, a native of Jamestown, N.D., previously served as associate development director for the University of South Dakota Foundation. She also was chief of staff to former Democratic Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, South Dakota’s lone member of the U.S. House from 2004 to 2011.
