9 suspected gang members charged in rape of St. Paul girl, 14
The alleged attack by members of the True Blood (TB22) gang occurred at an abandoned house on the 200 block of White Bear Avenue, according to charges filed today against five adult defendants. The complaint states that TB22 is a documented criminal street gang that operates in the Twin Cities, and has been involved in violent acts that include rape, aggravated assaults, drive-by shootings, auto thefts and drug-related crimes.

WILDLIFE RESEARCH: Deer telemetry study gets underway in northeast N.D.
According to Bill Jensen, big game biologist for Game and Fish in Bismarck, a helicopter crew trapped and fitted VHF radio-collars on the 40 adult does in late February. The study area is located in deer hunting Unit 2C and covers about 500 square miles, Jensen said. Most of the research area is in Walsh County, although it also dips into Grand Forks County, he said.

The Minnesota House approved a bill Thursday that would prevent the deduction of union dues or fees from state child care assistance funds. The bill passed 74-55, mostly on Republican support. Gov. Mark Dayton wants child care providers to be able to vote on whether they want to unionize. A court hearing on the constitutionality of his executive order is slated for Feb. 22.

According to Dr. Michelle Carstensen, wildlife health program coordinator for the DNR, the agency has funding to test deer in the area near Skime, Minn., again in 2012. Sharpshooting isn’t part of the plan, though, Carstensen said, and the DNR will rely on hunters to submit deer for further sampling efforts.
