UND MEN'S HOCKEY: Sioux storm back to take down Gophers 6-3, advance to final
Trailing 3-0 on the scoreboard and 23-7 on the shot chart late in the second period, UND coach Dave Hakstol called a timeout simply to give tired legs a rest. The coach didn’t stop coaching and the team didn’t stop playing, and it all led to the most stunning comeback of Hakstol’s eight-year tenure at the school. The Sioux scored six straight goals, outshot league champion Minnesota 21-2 the rest of the way and came out with a 6-3 victory over their biggest rival in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association semifinals Friday night in the Xcel Energy Center.

UND MEN'S HOCKEY: Sioux eye another Broadmoor title
ST. PAUL — Only one team has had a chance to check out the Broadmoor Trophy since it was redesigned after the 2009 season. The hardware, in the shape of the famous Colorado Springs hotel, has found a home at UND and Ralph Engelstad Arena for the past 24 months.

UND MEN'S HOCKEY: Relaying stories about 'Jim'
When Corban Knight returned to school after summer break, he heard everyone talking about a new freshman named Jim. “I had no idea who this Jim kid was,” Knight said. “I thought maybe we got another guy coming in late. But guys were all ‘Jim, Jim, Jim, Jim.” Finally, Knight asked Mario Lamoureux. “It’s Dan Senkbeil,” the captain said. Senkbeil first earned his nickname because defenseman Derek Forbort didn’t know who he was when he arrived on campus and simply referred to him as “Jim.” It stuck.

UND MEN'S HOCKEY: Sioux make it ten straight Final Five appearences with win over Bemidji State
Mario Lamoureux skated off the ice slowly, glanced around the rink and tried to let everything soak in. Finally, the senior captain and Grand Forks native concluded: This is a good way to leave Ralph Engelstad Arena. In his final game in the building, Lamoureux assisted on a goal, blocked a shot with his head and set the tone for UND in its 4-3 win over Bemidji State on Saturday – one that punched a ticket to the program’s 10th straight Western Collegiate Hockey Association Final Five in St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center. UND swept the best-of-three series 2-0.

UND MEN'S HOCKEY: Bemidji brings quiet confidence
It hasn’t been talked about at Bemidji State practice this week. But there’s good reason for the Beavers to have a quiet confidence heading into this weekend’s series against an opponent that has won more playoff games than any Western Collegiate Hockey Association team in the last decade.

UND MEN'S HOCKEY: Coming a long way
Mario Lamoureux’s statement was a bold one. That’s especially the case considering UND was in 11th place, had been shut out three straight weekends, was ravaged by injuries and was three days removed from an uninspiring 1-0 loss at Bemidji State when he said it.
