LLOYD OMDAHL COLUMN: Time to apologize to American Indians
Florida has just joined Alabama, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey and Virginia in passing resolutions expressing regret for its role in the “shameful chapter” of Southern slavery. Several other slave states are reluctant to follow suit because some militants are asking for reparations in addition to apologies for the descendents of slaves.

LLOYD OMDAHL COLUMN: Claiming the Missouri before others do
Even though earth warming is expected to melt the polar ice fields and bring unwanted water to our coasts, public officials across the United States are hustling to establish claims on the nation’s water resources. North Dakota has a huge stake in this national frenzy to redistribute water.

FARGO — On April 4, my wife and I settled in with a bowl of popcorn to watch the televised speeches of Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. We had been hearing conservative commentators say that Obama lacked substance in his speeches. We wanted to hear for ourselves.

LLOYD OMDAHL COLUMN: War on Children continues in N.D.
Once again, April has been designated as Child Abuse Prevention Month by a governor’s proclamation calling attention to the continuing atrocity of child abuse. Gov. John Hoeven’s proclamation points out that “approximately 7,000 children are reported abused and neglected in this state each year.” That’s a terrible acknowledgement for a state that claims to put children first.

LLOYD OMDAHL COLUMN: In Bismarck, they’re watching ‘The WSI Trail’
A saga of epic proportions has been unfolding in the hills of west central North Dakota. It’ll put the North Dakota box office smash, “Wooly Boys,” to shame, promising to be the most exciting western to hit the big screen since “High Noon” with Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly.
