The wife of Minnesota’s Republican U.S. Senate candidate asked voters to vote, even as a new poll put her husband far behind. “Whatever you believe, I encourage you to respectfully fight for principles, be informed about the candidates and issues, and exercise your right to vote,” Cindy Bills wrote in a letter to the editor. “It’s the best way your voice can be heard.”

A proud liberal who had argued fervently against Vietnam War as a Democratic senator from South Dakota and three-time candidate for president, McGovern died at 5:15 a.m. local time Sunday at a Sioux Falls hospice, surrounded by family and lifelong friends, family spokesman Steve Hildebrand told The Associated Press. McGovern was 90.

His senior year at North Dakota State University, Rick Berg met Jim Wieland, a guest speaker in one of his classes. Wieland had just launched a real estate investment and property management business.
