Gjovig to receive Royal Norwegian
You won’t have to call him Sir Bruce, but Norwegian booster Bruce Gjovig soon will sport a prestigious medal bestowed by King Harald of Norway. The royal palace in Oslo has announced that Gjovig, leader of UND’s Nordic Initiative and founding director of the university’s Center for Innovation, will receive the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit, which is given for “outstanding service in the interests of Norway.”

The question put to four former Peace Corps volunteers Thursday was about how they measured the effectiveness of their service overseas. Did they make a difference? The panel discussion, part of a three-day UND conference on John F. Kennedy’s life and times, took place 45 years to the day after Kennedy spoke on campus. That was two years after he created the Peace Corps in 1961 and just two months before his assassination in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963.
