WEATHER: Heat indexes top 100 up and down the Valley
The heat index got as high as 108 in Roseau, Minn., as temperatures in the mid-90s met up with very high humidity, with a dew point unusually high at 82 degrees. It was similar in Hallock, Minn., where as late as 7:15 p.m., the heat index still was at 105 degrees, said Vince Godin, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Grand Forks.

Rains soak region
Farm fields were soaked and muddy across the region Wednesday after 1 to 2 inches and more fell from late Monday into Wednesday. In the 24 hours ending 6 a.m. Wednesday, 1.73 inch had fallen at Grand Forks Air Force Base, and drizzling into the afternoon added perhaps another 0.1 inch, said Tom Grafenauer, meteorologist with the National Weather Service Office in Grand Forks.
