Donald Jorgensen
Donald Jorgensen of Stephen, MN, passed away on Monday, April 8th, 2013 at age 90. He was born on the family farm on June 14th, 1922 to Nels and Selma(Lundin) Jorgensen. He attended the Happy Corner School, and graduated from the Northwest School at Crookston in 1942. He proudly served in the US Navy from 1942 through January, 1946. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Gilbertson at Hawley, MN, on Nov. 23, 1945. They farmed in Sinnott Township until retiring in 1982. They continued to live on the farm until moving to Stephen in 2006.
Donald was a lifetime member of St. Petri and First Lutheran churches, serving in numerous capacities, from Sunday School Teacher to Head usher, to what was probably his favorite, caretaker of the St. Petri Lutheran Cemetery, located just one mile straight east of his kitchen window. He considered himself fortunate to have watched the sun rise over that cemetery almost every day of his life prior to moving off the farm, and the family considers itself fortunate to have many photos that he took of what he perceived to be the more spectacular ones.
