Rodney Brossart appeared with his wife, Susan, and their children Abby, Jacob, Thomas and Alex, all appearing jointly in the pre-trial hearing before state District Judge Joel Medd over criminal charges related to their aggressive resistance to law enforcement officers a year ago who were responding to a complaint from a neighbor over three stray cows and their calves.

The Michigan Area Ambulance Service was on life support just a few months ago, a victim of a withering supply of volunteers. Local leaders found at least a temporary antidote in January, when the ambulance service hired Darren Schemionek to staff the operation full-time during the daytime, Monday through Friday, when most volunteers are at work.

When I was growing up, my family’s Memorial Day weekend tradition was to visit cemeteries where my parents’ relatives are buried. In 1996, my dad died, and on Memorial Day 1997, my mom and Brian and I visited the cemetery to put flowers on his grave, her parents’ grave and Richard’s grave, along with my great-grandparents.
