Imagine a law declaring that upon becoming pregnant a woman loses her right to bodily integrity, life and liberty. Sound far-fetched? Unfortunately, the answer is: Not at all. In fact, such a law has passed in the North Dakota House.

Officials seek salary thaw
University System Chancellor Bill Goetz asked a House committee Monday to reverse a salary freeze the Senate put on senior employees in the system office. Goetz spoke to the House Appropriations Committee on Monday morning. When the Senate passed the budget bill for the higher education system about two weeks ago, it added a section freezing the pay of employees in the system office at the Capitol who earn more than $100,000. The freeze affects Goetz and two vice chancellors, among a few others, and amounts to a total of $138,000 in disallowed raises, Goetz told the House panel.

Destin Coles, Grand Forks, column: 'Personhood' bill defines known truths
I have some misgivings with the Herald’s editorial, “Personhood bill in N.D. goes much too far” (Page D1, Feb. 22). Since when did protecting the most innocent and vulnerable members of our society become radical?

As the chair of Republican Majority for Choice Colorado, I helped lead the fight against the personhood ballot measure in my state last year. Township Officers Association talks zoning
Zoning disputes between cities and townships or counties ultimately should be decided by an administrative law judge, not an elected local board. That’s the essence of the argument township officials are making in regard to proposed North Dakota legislation governing extraterritorial zoning jurisdiction of cities into rural areas.

OUR OPINION: 'Personhood' bill in N.D. goes much too far
