I recently asked North Dakota’s U.S. senators if they were on board with an improved version of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Both said they would support re-authorization in a timely way. I asked Rep. Rick Berg, R-N.D., if he would sign on, and his reply was, “We need to rein-in our out-of-control deficit.”

John Mitzel, Grand Forks, letter: Protect UND students’ ‘intellectual property’
What if Harvard had tried claiming Facebook because a student started the venture on campus? A university should have no claim on a student’s ideas or intellectual property as students have already paid tuition and fees to access courses, faculty and support. The Legislature must be proactive to protect students.

North Dakota Sen. John Hoeven says he's "guardedly optimistic" that two decades of flooding in the Devils Lake basin will soon be stabilized.
