Marie Olson
Marie Olson, 83, passed away while holding her daughter's hand and surrounded by family and friends on February 28, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Center in Larimore, ND.
Marie Margaret Kearns Olson was born on a farm near Honeyford, ND, on May 19, 1929, to Michael Patrick Kearns and Marie Anne Renne' Moritz Kearns. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Fargo in 1947. She married Orlando Kenneth Olson on April 1, 1950, and lived and farmed near Arvilla their entire lives. They had 4 children: Kenneth , Larry, Steven, and Julie.

The sophomore went from nervous in the quarterfinals of the North Dakota Class B Region 2 boys high school basketball tournament to star in Thursday’s championship game. Brock Robbins had 24 points, leading Cavalier to a 57-50 win against Grafton in the title game at Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.

William D. "Bill" Desautel
William D. “Bill” Desautel, age 80 of Grafton, ND passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton.
William D. Desautel was born January 5, 1933 to William H. and Minnie (Brosius) Desautel in Grafton, ND. He grew up on the family farm and attended rural school at District 51. He graduated from Grafton High School. On July 15, 1954 he married Patricia Davies. Bill married Dolores “Dee” Woinarowicz on June 24, 1981. Bill worked on the family farm for his brothers, Bob and Jack before taking a job with Grand Forks Bottling Co. He later sold cars for Lykken, Inc., worked at Home Gas Co. and Allied Chemical Company. He then worked for Fert-L-Flow before going to work for Grand Forks Seed Company and Terra Chemical Company. He worked for Poly-Phos processing and then returned to Terra Chemical where he retired in 1992.

James J. “Joe” Martindale
James J. “Joe” Martindale, 76, of Cavalier, ND passed away Monday, February 25, 2013, at Sanford Palliative Care, Fargo, ND due to surgical complications. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 2, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Cavalier Presbyterian Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Friday, March 1st from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the church.
Joe was born November 11, 1936 to Joseph and Laura Mae (Stockton) Martindale at the Deaconess Hospital in Grafton, ND. After Joe’s parents died, he lived with his Uncle Tom and Aunt Violet Martindale on a farm near Bathgate, ND. He attended school in Bathgate. After school, he was a PFC in the US Army stationed in California and Panama, serving for three years. He began working in law enforcement as a city policeman for the City of Cavalier. In 1969, he became a Pembina County Deputy Sheriff under the guidance of Sheriff Glen Wells. Joe served as deputy from 1969 to 1973 and Chief Deputy from 1973 to 1987. In 1987, he was elected Pembina County Sheriff and held that position, retiring January 1, 2003. Joe also farmed the family land near Bathgate.

Gerald (Jerry) Harlow
Gerald (Jerry) Harlow, 77, of Drayton, North Dakota passed away at Valley Memorial Center in Grand Forks on Monday evening, February 25th, 2013 after a short courageous battle with cancer.
Jerry was born March 6, 1935 at Drayton to Theodore and Irma (McKeever) Harlow. He attended grade school in Drayton and high school in Crookston, Minnesota. On April 5, 1953 he married Marjorie Cox at Grafton. He entered the U.S. Army in 1954 serving 2 years in the Korean War. Jerry worked for Raney Farms of Drayton, Boeing in California, Ryan Farms in Gilby, North Dakota and the Drayton Elevator. In 1967 he moved his family to Cavalier, North Dakota and worked for Cominco and Simplot as manager until his retirement in 1991. After retirement Jerry and Marge moved back to Draytonto live on the Harlow family farm. He farmed for a few years and enjoyed helping neighbors with sugar beet harvest. Jerry and Marge spent the past 17 years wintering in Edinburg, Texas. Jerry is a member of the Drayton United Methodist Church and the Drayton American Legion. He also served many years on the Lincoln Township Board. Jerry enjoyed socializing with family and friends, reading and going for rides in the country. He also enjoyed camping and deer hunting.
