Union representatives of the 1,300 locked-out American Crystal Sugar Co. workers today released audio tapes of a Nov. 7 shareholders meeting in Grafton, N.D., in which they said the speaker — identified as Crystal President and CEO Dave Berg — “likened the workers to a 21-pound cancerous tumor.” A company spokesman said that Berg “regrets using an analogy that compares our union contract to cancer,” but that the union’s statement takes his words out of context.

Gayle Lund, Ulen, Minn., letter: Insurance, seniority are the lockout keys

The letter dragged the locked-out Crystal workers into our solemn day of honoring our veterans. Earlier, the union leadership had tried to get the United Way involved in the labor dispute. Now, the leadership took the day that our soldiers and veterans are honored and dragged it through the same mud. That borders on being anti-American.
