Luella F. Gratton, 63, of Walhalla, ND passed away Monday, January 28, 2013, at home surrounded by her family and dog Dixie. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 1, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Walhalla Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 31st from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the church. Memorials are preferred to Altru Cancer Center in Grand Forks.
Lue Hiller was born April 17, 1949, near Vang, ND to Fred and Bena (Johnson) Hiller. She grew up and attended school in Cavalier, graduating in 1967. She went on to attend Garth’s School of Hair Design and graduated in 1969. In 1970, she married Jay Padden, with whom she had three daughters. On May 7, 1990, she married Kelly Gratton with whom she had one daughter. She was a member of the Big Pembina Lutheran Church

Earl Alton Radi, 91, of Crookston, MN, died Saturday at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. He was born in Lowell Township of Polk County, near Crookston, on November 7, 1921, the son of Emil and Selma (Reitmeier) Radi. On November 24, 1946 he married Eleanor Isabelle Olson at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Crookston. Earl was employed as a milkman for 32 years, working for Supreme Dairy, the Farmers Co-op Creamery, Valley Dairy, Sanitary Dairy, and the Bridgeman-Land O'Lakes Dairy. He served as a Polk County Commissioner from 1980-88.
Earl is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Eleanor; 2 daughters, Sheila (Randy) Hanson of Crookston, MN and Brenda (Kim) Nelson of Sioux City, IA; 2 grandsons, Christopher Hanson of New Hope, MN and Michael Hanson (Nerissa Sperling) of Crookston; and a great-grandson, Conner Hanson of Crookston. He also leaves a brother, Lloyd (Rita) Radi of Crookston; a sister-in-law, Marilyn (Charles) Arneson of Watertown, SD; an uncle, Delbert (Dulice) Reitmeier of Moorhead, MN; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. Earl was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dallas Radi; and an infant brother.

Irene Koehnen was born July 1, 1921 in Grand Forks, the daughter of John and Barbara (Salber) Koehnen. She grew up and attended school at the St. James Academy in Grand Forks. Irene Attended Aakers Business college and was employed at a Grand Forks Attorney’s office. She married Robert Kaufmann on February 5, 1944 in Grand Forks.

Mildred F. Foote- Dargus, 98, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013 in Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks.
Mildred Frances Moberg was born August 23, 1914 the daughter of Oscar and Augusta (Swenson) Moberg on the family farm near Reinhart Drive in East Grand Forks, MN. She was raised in East Grand Forks and graduated from East Grand Forks High School. Mildred married Delbert Foote on May 31, 1936 in Augustana Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. Following their marriage, they lived in East Grand Forks until moving to Grand Forks in 1944. Mildred was employed with Buttrey’s Clothing, Bray’s Clothing and Mary Elizabeth Clothing. Delbert preceded her in death on September 30, 1974. Mildred married Lawrence Dargus on November 19, 1977 in Augustana Lutheran Church. Lawrence preceded her in death on September 5, 2009. She was a life member of Augustana Lutheran Church, and was the oldest living baptized member of the congregation. Also, she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She enjoyed socializing with family and friends and reminiscing about her Swedish heritage.

Arral "AJ" Helgerson, 81, Grand Forks, died Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Altru Hospital. AJ was born November 28, 1931 in Inwood, IA, the son of Alvin and Ida Helgerson. AJ spent most of his formative years in the Sioux Falls, SD area. He graduated from Washington High School and attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls. AJ entered the Marine Corps in 1952. He married Donna McNamara on August 8, 1953 in Sioux Falls. Following the Marine Corps, AJ worked for F.W. Woolworth Company and was transferred to Grand Forks, ND in 1960. In January 1965, he joined the Vaaler Insurance agency, working there until his retirement in 1992. AJ touched his children and others with his honesty and integrity. AJ was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was involved in many leadership positions there and also with many community organizations. AJ cherished his time at his Minnesota lake cottage where he created a wonderful gathering place for his family, friends and dogs. AJ is survived by his wife of 59 years, Donna, children Jeff (Paula) Helgerson, Brooklyn Center, MN, Pam (Brian) Whalen, Grand Forks, ND, Tracy (Vince) Abentroth, Grand Forks, ND, David (Beth) Helgerson, Neenah, WI; grandchildren Tom, Anne and Carrie Helgerson; Jenny, Emily and Robert Whalen; Aimee and Matthew (Sarah) Abentroth; Brooke and Paige Helgerson; great-grandchildren Alex and Logan McClimon, and Avery Abentroth.AJ was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Greg Sande, and grandson Jon Abentroth.
