Muzzleloader deer season opens Friday, some N.D. refuges open to bird hunting
North Dakota's deer gun hunting season ended Sunday, but that doesn't mean the end of hunting opportunities. The muzzleloader deer season opens at noon this Friday and continues through Dec. 11. Hunters with a lottery muzzleloader license can hunt white-tailed deer statewide.

According to Paul Telander, regional wildlife supervisor for the Department of Natural Resources in Bemidji, the harvest is down about 30 percent in the far northern areas, 8 to 10 percent in the Bemidji-Park Rapids area, 27 percent in the western part of the region and 7 to 15 percent in the far southwest portion of the region. Regionwide, the deer kill is down about 13 percent, but season continues through today in some of the easternmost permit areas. Season in most of northwest Minnesota ended Nov. 13.

Truth in Accounting rules would help bring about the balanced budgets and fiscal responsibility Americans want. Why should we think a federal balanced-budget amendment would succeed? The answer is it would not succeed. But then, it’s not really meant to succeed: It’s a sideshow, one that supporters know won’t get the required supermajorities in Congress and among the states to take effect, but that offers lots of chances for speechifying in the meantime. There is a better way.
