DNR conservation officers' report: Ice fishing, snowmobiling hit full swing
CO Robert Gorecki (Baudette) said anglers are reporting a slower than normal bite on Lake of the Woods. One angler thought it was so slow that he wanted to improve his chances by attempting to fish with eight lines. Enforcement action was taken, and the angler stated that he didn’t even catch a single fish while using the extra lines.

Fishing had been tough — especially by first-ice standards. There were fish to be caught, for sure, but smallish saugers dominated the catch, and the walleyes that had been so common during the open water season were conspicuous by their absence.

DNR Conservation Officers' report: Unlawful elk shooting, Ice fishing etc.
CO Jeremy Woinarowicz (Thief River Falls) is investigating the possible unlawful shooting of a cow elk in the Grygla area. A cow elk was found shot northeast of Grygla and although there is an open elk season in that zone, all current hunters contacted stated they had not shot at any elk in the area. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Turn In Poachers hotline at (800) 652-9093.
