Gerald “Jerry” Lewis
Gerald “Jerry” Lewis, 66, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Friday, March 15, 2013 in the Good Samaritan Center, Larimore, ND.
Gerald Duane Lewis was born January 15, 1947 in St. Thomas, ND the son of Horace and Elise (Lorenzen) Lewis. He attended school in St. Thomas and Hoople, ND. He entered the United States Army on January 13, 1966 at Fargo, ND and served in Vietnam as an armament repair specialist. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. He was honorably discharged from military service on October 26, 1967 at Oakland, CA. Following his military service, he was employed as a mechanic in several states on the east coast. Living in Grand Forks, he was employed as a mechanic with Weekley’s Auto Parts and Hanson Ford until his retirement. Jerry was a private man. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoyed watching television and visiting with his friends.

Marvin D. Burns
Marvin D. Burns, age 89 of Grafton, ND passed away on Friday, March 15, 2013 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks.
Marvin D. Burns, the son of the late Patrick C. and Alice Mary (Callahan) Burns, was born June 6, 1923 in Grafton, ND. He grew up and attended school in Auburn. Following his education, he began farming with his dad and brothers. He served in the US Navy in WWII. Following his discharge he returned to Auburn to continue farming. While farming was his true passion, he also worked as a lineman for the Rural Electric Association, at the starch plant and Borden's in Grafton, and for American Crystal in Drayton. He was united in marriage to Shirley Torkelson on July 21, 1946. The couple made their home on the family farm near Auburn. Marvin retired from farming in 2006, and the couple moved into Auburn in 2009.

Kathy L. Alvestad, 56, Grand Forks, ND was brought home to the Lord on Friday, March 15, 2013 following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She passed away at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks where she was lovingly cared for by her fellow nurses and staff on 6th Floor.
Kathy Lynn Jelinek was born July 26, 1956 in Grafton, ND, the daughter of Richard and June Jelinek. She was raised and educated in Pisek, ND and graduated from high school there in 1974. Kathy was married to Bob Alvestad on August 10, 1974 in Pisek, ND. Kathy and Bob were blessed with two loving children, Melissa and Michael.

E. Allen Johnson, 67, of Grand Forks, ND died Thursday, March 14, 2013 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
E. Allen Johnson was born on May 20, 1945 in Grafton, ND the son of Elmer and Esther Johnson. He graduated from Devils Lake High School in 1963. Allen received his Commercial Pilot certificate at Wakefield Flight Service in Devils Lake and graduated from UND in 1969 with a Bachelor degree in economics and political science. He served in the US Navy and received his commission at the Naval Aviation Command at NAS Pensacola in 1969. After being honorably discharged from the Navy he earned his Certified Flight Instructor certificate and was also a Designated Pilot Examiner for the Federal Aviation Administration. After 10 years as a corporate pilot for Northern Cable TV and Kloster Dakota Franchising he became a flight instructor and lecturer for UND Aerospace. Allen retired in 2011.

Louis J. Schufletowski Sr.
Louis J. Schufletowski Sr., age 68 of Park River, ND, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.
Louis Schufletowski, the son of the late Henry and Louise (Dvolety) Schufletowski, was born September 22, 1944 in Grafton, ND. He attended school in the area and graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School where he was active in both football and basketball. He then attended and graduated from the Hanson School of Mechanics in Fargo, ND. Following his education, he worked at the Base Exchange at the Grand Forks AFB for a short time. He was united in marriage to Sharon Simmons on November 20, 1965 in Grafton, ND. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Park River and he began working for his father-in-law at Claude’s Service Repair, and later for Torgeson Oil. He also worked for Kaps INC in Park River before becoming the Director of Environmental Services at the Good Samaritan Center. During his 28 years there, he was named the employee of the year twice, in 2006 and 2011. He retired in October of 2012.
