Shot clock continues to click away in N.D. high school sports
The shot clock has been shot down by the National Federation of State High School Associations. But it will continue to click away in North Dakota. North Dakota High School Activities Association and the NDHSAA’s boys basketball liaison — said he doesn’t anticipate North Dakota dropping the shot clock. The shot clock has been used for several years in Class A, and became a part of Class B basketball this past winter.

The Badger-Greenbush-Middle River Gators have sent Red Lake Falls spiraling downward. Last week, Red Lake Falls was ranked third in the Minnesota Class A fastpitch softball state poll. After dropping an 8-0 decision to the Gators last week, the Eagles dropped to sixth in this week’s poll. They could descend more next week after a 12-2 loss to the Gators on Tuesday.

Fargo activities director job will begin July 1
Almost 20 years ago, Jeff Schatz gave Todd Olson his first head coaching job. On Tuesday, Schatz played a part in another Olson hiring. Olson, the Grand Forks high school athletic director, was approved as the Fargo Public Schools activities director on Tuesday by the Fargo School Board. Olson’s new boss will be an old boss. Schatz, a former Grand Forks athletic director and Grand Forks Central principal, was recently hired as the Fargo Superintendent.

PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: 1,000-point club not uncommon for Northern Freeze
With Tori Davidson and her 1,649 career points, Northern Freeze will enter the 2012-13 girls high school basketball season with one of the most explosive scorers in Minnesota’s Section 8A. For the Freeze, however, that’s not unusual. It’s more the norm. In five of the past six seasons, the Freeze have had at least one player in the lineup during the year that has reached the 1,000-point milestone. Alycia Dahl was the first in a Freeze girls basketball uniform to reach the milestone, scoring her 1,000th point as a junior in the 2006-07 season — the third season of the co-op between Marshall County Central and Tri-County high schools.
