Milt Derman, Grand Forks, letter: Thanks for exceptional Honor Flight
On Sept. 24-25, I was privileged to be one of the 102 World War II veterans on the Northern Valley Honor Flight to Washington. What an awesome trip this was. From the moment we set foot in Red River High School to begin our trip until we arrived back at Red River at the end of our trip, the committee/ volunteers took care of our every need.

MARILYN HAGERTY: Veterans feel humble, honored after Washington trip
Theirs was a quick trip to Washington, D.C., and this week the World War II veterans who went on the final Northern Valley Honor Flight have had time to savor the experience. Most of them are well into their 80s now, and most of them otherwise would never see the memorial erected in their honor.

Event raises 'Honor Flight' funds
For Robert Carlson, the lasting memory of the first North Valley Honor Flight was the camaraderie among the veterans. For Charles Carpenter, the trip's highlight was the ride through Arlington Cemetery. The Grand Forks men were reliving their April trip Wednesday at the county office building, at a fundraising luncheon for the second — and probably last — honor flight out of Grand Forks. The flights allow World War II veterans to visit the WWII Memorial and other historic attractions, with all expenses paid.

After Honor Flight, an old Marine writes notes of thanks
Ray Spicer has seen cities such as Denver and Minneapolis. But he had never — in all of his 85 years — seen Washington D.C. And when he got home this past week, he said he never realized how massive it was with all of the high buildings. “And they all looked so new.”
