Wilma Marie Berglund was born August 10, 1933 to William and Alice (Desrosier) Berglund in Crookston, MN. She attended school in Crookston and was married to George Schneibel on October 16, 1951 in Grand Forks, ND. Wilma worked for Old Dutch for 17 years, Charlie’s Bakery for 3 years, and Valley Memorial Hospital for 10 years before her retirement in 1997.

Tom was born July 26, 1950 in Grand Forks, ND the son of Arthur and Edna (Kinney) Ronan. He attended school in a one room schoolhouse near Manvel, ND until 8th grade. After which he attended school in Grand Forks and graduated from Central High School. Tom earned his Bachelor Degree from UND. He lived and farmed near Manvel, ND until he was forced to discontinue due to illness.

USA Boxing, which sanctions amateur boxing in America, is investigating the death this week of Grand Forks boxer Jerimiah “J. J.” Moen. Moen, 29, collapsed last Saturday between rounds of a bout at the American Legion Club in East Grand Forks.

Jerimiah "J. J." Moen, 29, Grand Forks, ND passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks in the presence of his family and friends. His death was due to a sports related boxing injury.

J. J. was born in Grand Forks, N.D. on July 1, 1983 to Michelle Sweeney Lund, and John Moen. He was raised by Mike and Tamara Sweeney in Manvel, N.D. After graduating from Community High School, J. J. worked on the family farm near Manvel. He later worked at various jobs finally retuning to the work he loved most, farming. For the last 5 years he worked for Dan and Diane Majkarzk on their family farm.

Henry H. Riske, a lifelong resident of Grafton, N.D., passed away at Elim Care in Fargo February 15, 2013.

Henry was born September 4, 1920 in rural Warsaw, N.D. the first child of Martin H. and Frances V. (nee Stoltman) Riske. He attended grade school in Warsaw and graduated from high school in Minto, N.D. Henry worked on the family farm until he entered the Army Air Force. During the war he was a mechanic on Lockheed's P-38 Lightening. He went to mechanic school in Santa Monica, California before being deployed to China and the Far East. He won his honorable discharge and returned home to marry his sweetheart Leona M. Misialek, daughter of John and Delphina Misialek.

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend, James Richard Bushaw, 70, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on February 16, 2013.

Jim was born June 20, 1942, in Grand Forks, North Dakota to James and Bonita (Bellman) Bushaw. He graduated from Oslo High School in 1960 and then worked in construction before beginning a life-long career in farming. On June 16, 1962, he married his high school sweetheart, Maxine Campbell, at St. Timothy's Catholic Church in Manvel, North Dakota.

Leila V. Kinney
Leila, V. Kinney, age 97, passed away on Feb. 13, 2013 at Valley Memorial Eldercare in Grand Forks, ND, where she had resided since June 2006. Leila was born Dec. 15, 1915 in Momence, IL. The daughter of Leo & Leona Kinney, at age 5 she moved with her family to Manvel, ND where she attended grade and high school. She later attended Mayville State Teachers College and then went on to earn her degree at UND. After teaching a few years, she joined the WAVES and served for three years. Later she went back to school to obtain a Master’s Degree in Social Work at UCLA. It was in Los Angeles that she first learned to drive a car! Leila worked for 46 years as a social worker in the counties of Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Ventura.

During Leila’s working years she was very active in many organizations and volunteer groups. She enjoyed participating in church activities and was a member of Federated Church in Grand Forks. Gardening was one of her favorite hobbies – she loved flowers and had a large rose garden.

Esther A. Viger
Our loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, Esther Viger passed away at the age of 99 on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society in Park River, ND.

Esther Adeline Holm was born August 31, 1913 in Derrick, ND, the daughter of Elling and Alma (Sander) Holm. She lived her entire life in the Edmore area. She attended schools in Edmore and Mayville College, where she obtained a Teachers Certificate. She taught school in Newland and Fancher Townships, which were one room class rooms with all grades. On March 16, 1935, Esther was united in marriage to Lloyd Melvin Viger in Edmore. After marriage they farmed in Newland Township and raised their two children, Donald and Judy. Lloyd passed away on August 26, 1969. Esther continued to live on the farm and hold various jobs in the Edmore community well into her 70’s, only stopped by a fall fracturing her knee. Esther was a very active member of Concordia Lutheran Church of Edmore and the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed crocheting, which many of her doilies reside in homes in the area, and mowing her yard, until her 90’s.
