Norma Jean Kjos, Wyndmere, N.D., letter: Dorgan’s populism rings hollow and false
Maybe Sen. Byron Dorgan should focus instead on cleaning up the problems in Washington that he helped to create as chairman of the Democratic Policy Committee, problems including 10 percent unemployment and a massive deficit that mortgages our country to China.

NBA commentary: Phil Jackson is worth what it will take
Phil’s a funny guy as I have learned, and more relaxed during these playoffs than at any time I have seen him, which makes you wonder if the former UND player already knows what he will be doing next year.

RALPH KINGSBURY: Complacency, human nature and the Gulf leak
My favorite comedic line from my youth came from the Laurel and Hardy movies, when Ollie would shake his head at Stanley and proclaim, “Well, isn’t this another fine mess!” the duo had gotten into. Even as a boy, I knew that the line spoke so much truth about people and how they handle life.
