Duane Arnold Hanson was born April 5, 1934 on the Ross farm near Fisher, MN the son of Arnold and Edna (Ross) Hanson. He grew up and attended school in Warren, MN. In his freshman year, he moved to Crookston, MN. He graduated from Crookston High School in 1953. Duane served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Ft. Benning, GA. He later returned to Crookston where he farmed with his father before moving to Grand Forks. In 1958, Duane joined the Grand Forks Police Department and worked as a police officer until 1996, retiring as Sergeant.

Laura Aleta Grove, 92, of Larimore, North Dakota, formerly of Egeland, North Dakota, died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, April 16 at the Larimore Good Samaritan Home.
Aleta, as she was known by for her entire life, was born March 23, 1921 to Walter and Gladys (Sather) Forney in the house in Egeland where she resided most of her life. She attended Egeland Grade School and Egeland High School, graduating as salutatorian in 1939. After graduation, she attended Minot State Teacher’s College, where she received her standard teaching degree, and taught elementary school in Starkweather, North Dakota. On June 19, 1943, she married her high school sweetheart, Bland Otto Grove, son of John and Lulu (Pikkarainen) Grove of Egeland, in Los Angeles. She lived briefly in Los Angeles, moving back to Egeland shortly after her marriage while her husband was deployed overseas during World War II.

Eugene Russell Monson
Eugene "Gene" Monson , 82, passed away at his home on April 7, 2012. Gene was the son of Harry Monson and Gladys {Johnston} Monson. He was born on 6-6- 1930 in Grand Forks, and grew up in Fargo and Grand Forks. He graduated from GF Central High School, and received a ROTC scholarship for Yale University. He graduated from Yale with a B.A. degree in 1952, and entered the U.S. Marines as a commissioned officer. He served in Korea, and returned to Grand Forks where he completed a MBA degree at UND. He worked as a CPA in Grand Forks for the remainder of his life.
Gene was active in the Grand Forks Historical Society, Myra Museum. He was active in a local group of Marine veterans. He loved golfing and spent many happy days on the Lincoln Golf course. He was a lifelong member of United Lutheran Church.

Gerald (Jerry) Torrance, 85, of Grand Forks, passed away Friday, April 5, 2013 at Hearthstone in Woodside Village, Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Jerry was born on May 10, 1927 to James and Dora Torrance on a farm near Gonvick, Minnesota. His family moved to Grand Forks where he lived most of his life. He attended Belmont, Roosevelt, South Junior High, and Central High School where he graduated in 1944. He entered the United States Army in 1945. He was stationed in Seoul, Korea for two years as a teletype repairer. He was honorably discharged in 1948. Upon returning to Grand Forks, he joined his father in Torrance Plumbing and Heating. He married Clarice Karver, his roller skating sweetheart, on November 23, 1950 in Crookston, Minnesota. Jerry was an avid bowler for many years. He was secretary-treasurer of the Southside League for 30 years. He was president of the Grand Forks Bowling Association from 1978 to 1984. In 1993 the Grand Forks Bowling Association inducted him into the Hall of Fame for Meritorious Achievement. Summer vacations were a special time for Jerry. He enjoyed taking his family to different destinations throughout the United States. Jerry cherished spending time with his grandchildren, whether it was playing a quick game of Sorry or Candyland, playing with Legos or Lincoln Logs on the floor, or taking them to the park and watching them play.
