Margaret Swanson, 93, of rural Lake Bronson, Minnesota passed away at Karlstad Healthcare Center in Karlstad, Minnesota on Friday, March 1st, 2013.

Ethel Margaret Gustafson was born November 25, 1919 in Nelson Park Township west of Karlstad to Carl (C.J.) and Jennie (Johnson) Gustafson. After her father died suddenly in 1923 leaving his wife with four small children, the family moved to the ridge south of the Karlstad school.

Lois Severson
Lois Severson, 88, of Seaside, Oregon died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, February 17, 2013. Lois was born on May 9, 1924 in Burley, Idaho as one of five children to Edward L. and Pearl Terriere. She graduated from high school in 1942 and spent the next few years working in Salt Lake City, Utah and Monterey, California.

In April of 1946 she married E. Bruce Severson of Grand Forks, North Dakota. They had three children, Mark, Randy and Pamela. Lois served or volunteered in many organizations such as the Methodist Church, YWCA, Elks Lodge, Girl Scouts of America, Order of the Eastern Star, Entre Nous Club and P.T.A. Lois loved to quilt, sew, knit, paint, collect antiques, read mystery novels, travel, dance, garden and entertain. The doors to her home were always open to friends and family and filled with beauty and laughter.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church, Pembina, ND. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service & rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Burial at Joliette Cemetery, Joliette, ND.

Valentine was born on August 14, 1921 in Joliette, ND to Gaston & Helen (Depreitere) Corneillie. On August 23, 1941, she married Henry “Hank” Pelletier. They lived on a farm by Joliette, ND. They had eleven children. Hank passed away on September 28, 1986. Valentine lived in Pembina for the past 26 years. She was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, Pembina, ND. She will be remembered for her baking of buns for church & community events and especially her caramel rolls. She also made quilts, blankets and rugs.

Annie was born July 6, 1924, at Pembina, ND to Albert and Martha (Stegman) Sagert. She graduated from Pembina High School. After high school, Annie worked various jobs around the area. On April 23, 1948, she married Louis Weiss at Neche, ND. Louis passed away July 11, 2010. Annie loved gardening whether it was planting trees or flower gardens. She also enjoyed crocheting and quilting.

Helen Mae Arlene Laaveg, age 91 of Park River passed away Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the First Care Health Center of Park River.

Helen Mae Arlene Klungness was born May 29, 1921 in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of the late Halvor and Rose (Markholt) Klungness. She spent her childhood in Dundee Township, Edinburg and Grafton. She graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School, Park River in 1938. She then graduated and received her diploma from Deaconess Hospital in 1942. After she received her R.N., Helen joined the Navy Nurse Corp. She served from 1942-1946 at the San Diego Naval Hospital. Helen was united in marriage to Joseph Laaveg September 1, 1947 at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Edinburg. The couple lived and farmed in Vernon Township until 1984 when they moved into Park River. Helen started working for the Lutheran Sunset Home in 1965. In July 1976 she began working for the Park River Good Samaritan Center, retiring in 1992. Joseph died January 14, 2005. In 2009 Helen was able to participate with the Honor Flight. In January 2011 Helen moved to the Good Samaritan Apartments, where she resided until the time of her death.

Doreen B (Paulson) Anderson
Doreen B (Paulson) Anderson- 86, of Drayton ND passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, in Altru Hospital Grand Forks, ND.

Doreen was born on Feb. 14, 1926, to John and Emma (Sjoo) Paulson, in Marshall County MN where she grew up. She later worked for the Herbert Mortenson’s as a nanny/Mom’s helper, and met the neighbor boy Irvin “Pete” Anderson. They were married on Nov 22, 1947, at Salem Lutheran Church, rural Stephen MN. They made their home in Teien Township and were engaged in farming until retirement. She lived on the farm until her death. Doreen was a member of Skjeberg Lutheran Church of rural Drayton and was very active in the WELCA and sewing quilts for the missions. Doreen especially enjoyed doing embroidery on dish towels and making quilts for new babies, and shopping trips with her good friends, Sherry and Jan. She was an avid Nascar fan, and her love of flowers showed in her flower beds and yard. She loved the annual summer picnics at Sharon & Bill’s, and Diane’s annual Paulson Christmas/Buddy’s birthday party after Christmas.

Theresa B. Kazmierczak, 90, of Ardoch, ND passed away Friday, December 24, 2012 in Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks, ND.

Theresa Barbara Gerszewski was born October 2, 1922 in rural Ardoch, Levant Township, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Jacob and Lillian (Narloch) Gerszewski. Theresa married Peter Kazmierczak on November 21, 1945 in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Warsaw, ND. They built a new home on her parents' homestead in 1956 and began their lifelong career of farming. After Peter’s death in a farming accident on August 27, 1973, Theresa continued farming for a few years, until retiring. She moved to Tufte Manor in Grand Forks in August, 2010.

Ruth Anderson
Ruth Evelyn Anderson, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend died Sunday, December 23, 2012 in the Mahnomen Health Center Hospital at the age of 96.

Ruth E. Christianson was born March 9, 1916 to Hilda and Idius Christianson in Gully, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Lund Lutheran Church. Ruth's family was blessed with the gift of music and she and her siblings played various instruments and spent many evenings playing and dancing in the music room. Ruth graduated from Gully High School and furthered her education at Bemidji State College from 1934-1935. In 1936, she graduated from Brady & Rogers School of Cosmetology in Minneapolis, MN. Ruth was employed in various salons in Minneapolis, McIntosh and Bagley, MN. Although she didn't always work in a salon setting, she continued to apply her skills as a cosmetologist for her family and friends.
