Charles Barkie
Charles Barkie, 94, Grand Forks, ND passed away May 8, 2013 at Valley Eldercare, Grand Forks, ND.
Charles was born April 19, 1919 in Bull Butte Township, Williams County. He was the 7th son of 10 children born to George and Mary (Shahain) Barkie. He grew up and attended school in rural Williston, ND. He left home at the age of 16 looking for work. He joined the C. C. Camp and worked there for 2 years. Then he came to Eastern North Dakota and worked for a farmer the next 5 years. He married Delores Joyce Kenmir September 15, 1940. In 1942 he started working for the Great Northern Railway, which became Burlington Northern Sante Fe as a section hand, machine operator, and the last 25 years as yard foreman retiring on May 1, 1980 for a total of 38 years. On December 29, 1976 he married Betty (Karver) Piche.
