I went with friends recently for a Sunday chicken dinner at the Inn at Maple Crossing near Mentor, Minn. It’s a hop, skip and a jump of about 50 miles over there and you have to call in advance for a reservation. They have special meals during the holidays.

MARILYN HAGERTY: Red River graduate will join Team USA in Korea
Tom, or Tommy, Mikkelson, who is always cheery, has a bigger smile than ever on his face this week. He received the Male Athlete of the Year Award provided by Special Olympics at a banquet in Fargo Saturday. And in January, Tom will compete in alpine skiing as part of Team USA at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Korea.

She started collecting odds and ends for Halloween almost 30 years ago. And now Kelly Straub has her house at 619 18th Ave. S., surrounded by ghosts and ghouls — anything that will scare the daylights out of you on Halloween. She even has a coffin where you can crawl in and have your picture taken.
