Severe T-storm warning for Grand Forks, Polk, 6 other counties until 3:45 a.m.
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning affecting Grand Forks County and all or portions of seven other counties, effective until 3:45 a.m. The storm has produced wind gusts of 64 mph at both Grafton and Hallock, Minn., according to reports to the weather service.

City Recognizes Employees
The City of Grand Forks recently honored several employees who have marked employment anniversaries or who have recently been hired. John Plante has put in 5 years with the Police Department as a Community Service Officer. A native of Red Lake Falls, MN, Plante worked previously at the UND School of Law. Andy Stein has also marked 5 years with the city, working as a Police Officer. Stein is originally from Albert Lea, MN. Before joining the City of Grand Forks, he spent six years in the Air Force, retiring at the Grand Forks Air Force Base. Carolyn Kaltenberg has worked for the city for the past 10 years. Kaltenberg, a native of Bowbells, ND, is a Public Health Nurse. Ben Johnson has spent the past 10 years with the Grand Forks Police Department. He is a UND graduate from Bottineau, ND. Johnson was promoted to Sergeant in 2009. Anne Etherton has worked as a Reference Specialist in the Grand Forks Police Department for the past 15 years. Etherton, is a Manvel, ND native. Gerald Elm is a Senior Equipment Operator with the Grand Forks Streets Department and just celebrated his 15 year anniversary with the department. Bev Collings has worked for the past 20 years with the Grand Forks Inspections Department. Collings, a Grand Forks native, is the Building and Zoning Administrator for the City. She graduated from Red River High School and UND. Patrick Torok has worked for the City of Grand Forks for 20 years and is currently a Corporal with the Police Department. Torok is originally from Fargo, ND. Grace Stromli works in the Finance Department as an Account Specialist. Stromli, a native of Grand Forks, has worked for the city for 25 years.

Gary Adams, chief of the Thompson, N.D., fire department, said his crew responded to a call that at about 11:30 p.m., Wednesday of a house fire southwest of Grand Forks. When firefighters arrived at 1810 12th Ave. N.E., the house was engulfed in flames. Nobody was injured.
