With little room for error, Crookston won its first section boys true team track championship Tuesday. The Pirates scored 520 points to runner-up West Marshall’s 473.5. PREP BASEBALL: Eagles start fast behind stingy pitching
Experience abounds on the East Grand Forks Sacred Heart pitching staff. Some of it was good experience; some of it was bad. But all the experience seems to be paying off for the Eagles’ baseball team. Sacred Heart improved to 4-0 on Saturday, winning twice on quality pitching performances at the annual Sacred Heart Classic high school tournament. With wins of 10-0 over Kittson County Central and 10-2 over Drayton/St. Thomas/Valley-Edinburg, Sacred Heart was the lone unbeaten in the four-team round-robin tournament.

Bridges to be replaced, roads repaired in northwest Minnesota
Construction season is about to begin in the Northland, and the Minnesota Department of Transportation has announced this year’s road construction projects. Seventeen of those projects are in the state’s northwest corner. Five bridges will be replaced, eight repaired and about 100 miles of roads resurfaced.

Change is coming to Minnesota Section 8A boys hockey. Beginning next season, the 8A tournament format will change. Rather than having the entire tournament at one site, play-in and quarterfinal games will be hosted by the teams with the highest seed.
