The letter incorrectly argues that the 2008 farm bill “added to the nation’s deficit.” This is completely false. When the 2008 farm bill passed in May of that year, the Congressional Budget Office — the nonpartisan accountants of Congress — said it would save taxpayers more than $100 million over 10 years.

UND Backpack Program, Nov. 1-Nov. 20: The Nonprofit Leadership Student Association of UND, in conjunction with Great Plains Food Bank and Northlands Rescue Mission, is collecting food for its BackPack program. BackPack aims to make sure that school-aged children in Grand Forks won’t go hungry on the days they are not in school.
