It took East Grand Forks Senior High’s aggressive baserunning and the command of Green Wave pitcher Michael Kinzler to hand East Grand Forks Sacred Heart its first loss. Kinzler tossed six strong innings and struck out nine, while the Green Wave scored four runs on wild pitches en route to an 8-2 victory over the Eagles on Tuesday at Stauss Park.

East Grand Forks Senior High was pushed to the limit Monday night against Warroad. Goalie Hunter Aubol made just enough big saves to keep the Green Wave’s season alive. Aubol made a couple of crucial stops in the final minute after Warroad pulled its goalie to lead Senior High to a 4-3 win in the semifinals of the Minnesota Section 8A tournament at the Gardens.

East Grand Forks Senior High didn’t lighten its schedule late in the boys hockey season. Now co-coach Cory Chupka hopes that will pay off as the Section 8A playoffs begin. The Green Wave take the No. 2 seed into the 8A tournament. After a first-round bye, Senior High plays a quarterfinal game at 6 p.m. Friday in Warroad, meeting the winner of Tuesday’s Red Lake Falls/Bagley-Fosston play-in game.
