YOUR MONEY: Lenders' mortgage help varies greatly
David Waxer, financial counselor for GreenPath Debt Solutions in Southfield, Mich., said his office has seen all extremes when it comes to how lenders handle troubled homeowners. One small mortgage company, he said, didn't want to budge and wouldn't lower the 12 percent mortgage rate held by one of its delinquent customers. The lender would only add the past-due amount to the back end of the mortgage to make the loan current and avoid foreclosure for a while.

Citizens speak up in Casselton forum
In Casselton, supporters of reform spoke of wrenching decisions and descent into debt in the face of mounting health care costs and limits to insurance coverage. Reform skeptics conjured a grim government takeover of a health care system some said was the best in the world. Sen. Byron Dorgan made a brief pitch for change – curbs to insurance and prescription costs he said are by far higher than anywhere in the world – but mostly stepped back and listened.

The Dow Jones industrials and the Standard & Poor’s 500 index posted their best weekly performance since early March, when the market’s spring rally began. Richer Sotomayor portrait emerges
The portrait of Sonia Sotomayor that has emerged from hour upon hour of testimony before the Judiciary Committee this week is that of a judge who is confident, disciplined and unflappable — but also unafraid to admit she’s goofed up, willing to share a laugh with her critics and unembarrassed to recount details of her favorite childhood TV show.

INVESTING: Dollar-cost averaging has flaws, but can be a good option for a nervous investor
Fleeing the market a few months ago might have seemed an easy decision — potentially painful, yes, but easy, because your gut told you to stop losing money fast.
