Phyllis A. Erickson
Phyllis Ann (Thompson) Erickson, age 72 of Altoona, WI formerly of Fargo and Grand Forks, ND passed away on Saturday February 2, 2013 at Mayo Clinic Health System Eau Claire, WI.
Phyllis was born February 15, 1940, the youngest child of eight to George and Bergit (Hovet) Thompson. She graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1958 and earned her BA in Fine Arts from the University of North Dakota in 1962. Phyllis was a talented artist who began working at UND doing pen and ink lettering and graphics for the Department of Surgery in the 1970’s and thrived through the transition to computer graphics until her retirement in 1997. After her retirement from the University, Phyllis moved to Fargo, ND and in 2004 moved to the Eau Claire, WI area to be near her grandchildren.

MaryBeth Martin
MaryBeth (Bogart) Martin, 53, Grand Forks, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at her home after losing a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her family and friends.
MaryBeth was born on May 16, 1959, the daughter of Marlyn and Phyllis (Thompson) Bogart. MaryBeth grew up in Milnor, North Dakota, graduating from Milnor High School. She attended Golden Valley Lutheran College, in Golden Valley, Minnesota with a degree in Parish Work. She then moved to Grand Forks, and attended the University of North Dakota, graduating with a degree in Social Work. During college, she worked at the White Banner Uniform Shop.

Zona L. Swanson
Zona L. Swanson, 89, of Grand Forks, ND passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 in Valley Eldercare Center, Grand Forks. Zona was born on November 14, 1923 at Orr, ND, the daughter of Fred L. and Hilda Neumann of Orr, ND. She grew up to womanhood in the area. She attended the Orr School for twelve years. To further her education she attended Mayville State Teachers College receiving an AA in 1943 and a BA in 1959. In 1966, she attained a Masters in Education at the University of North Dakota. In June of 1943 she married Lyle Swanson and was a farmer’s wife for ten years before moving to Larimore, ND. She was meant to be a teacher as she spent 38 years doing what she enjoyed. As an elementary teacher, she taught in a Larimore rural school (1950-1952); grades 5-8 in Arvilla (1952-1954); grades 1-8 in Kempton (1954-1959); grades 5 and 7 at the Grand Forks Air Force Base (1959-1969); and grade 6 in Grand Forks (1969-1989) and then retired. Zona was as active leader and participant in the Grand Forks Education Association, (president) North Dakota Classroom Teacher’s Association (Bismarck), Girl Scouts, Larimore church/Sunday school, Civil Air Patrol, and Farmer’s Union. Zona was an avid doll and teddy bear collector, having some very good ones. She especially enjoyed collecting Steiff teddy bears. She also liked to read a good book, most of them by Danielle Steel. At one time she collected stamps. Zona also participated in Lyle’s antique interests by traveling to antique and flea market shows with him. She enjoyed hearing from former students especially at Christmas time and even for wedding and graduation announcements. Zona especially enjoyed and cherished her two grandchildren from the time they were born and grown to adults. Left to cherish her memories are her husband Lyle; daughter, Barbara Jean Serr (special friend Jim Lienhart) Bismarck, ND; son, Daniel R. and Virginia (Miller) Swanson, Grand Forks, ND; granddaughter, Kim A. Serr, Surprise, AZ; and grandson Derek D. Swanson, Eagan, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Dwight Neumann of NC; and sister Inez Brueckner of WA. A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Amundson Funeral Home in Grand Forks. Visitation will be one hour prior to the memorial service. Mary Jane Klabo
Mary Jane Klabo, 74, Valley City, and long-time resident of Pembina, N.D. passed away January 28, 2013 in Sanford Hospital in Valley City. A funeral mass will be held at Assumption Catholic Church in Pembina, N.D. on Thursday, January 31st at 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place at St. Catherine's Catholic cemetery in Valley City, N.D.
Mary Jane was born February 24, 1938. She was the eldest daughter of L.P. "Pat" Malone and Josephine (Bosch) Malone of Linton, N.D. Mary Jane grew up in Linton where she attended St. Anthony's Catholic School through grade 8 and Linton High School where she graduated as co-valedictorian. She went on to attend the University of North Dakota where she met the love of her life, Gordon N. Klabo. Mary Jane and Gordon (Gordy) were married at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Linton on June 9, 1958. The couple lived in Bismarck and Parshall, N.D. before settling in Pembina, N.D. where the couple lived until retirement.
