PREP NOTEBOOK: Gymnastics experience translates to Pole Vaulting success for Green Wave junior
Josh Regorrah was a gymnast for several years. The skills he developed as a gymnast have helped him become a standout pole vaulter. And Regorrah is pretty efficient with the vaulting pole in his hands. The Green Wave junior has cleared 11 feet, 6 inches or more in every meet this season. In three meets, he’s cleared 12 feet — one foot higher than his personal record entering the season.

Ex-UND player Frydenlund transfers to Jamestown College, to play for former Sioux assistant
Jamestown College women’s basketball coach Greg Ulland hadn’t been around Chelsey Frydenlund for a year, but he noticed a change in the former UND player. Frydenlund, a former East Grand Forks Senior High standout, has transferred to Jamestown, where she’ll play for Ulland — the former Sioux assistant coach who recruited her out of high school.

PREP TRACK: Riders excel in relays with quality depth
There is strength in numbers for the Grand Forks Red River girls track team. Entering the weekend, only two Roughriders had qualified for the state meet in open events on the track — junior Hadley Steffen in the 100 and senior Rachel Todhunter in the 300 hurdles. Yet the team’s quality depth showed in that Red River already has qualified for state in all four relays. And the top showing to date hasn’t been in a short relay; it’s in the 4x800.

It took East Grand Forks Senior High’s aggressive baserunning and the command of Green Wave pitcher Michael Kinzler to hand East Grand Forks Sacred Heart its first loss. Kinzler tossed six strong innings and struck out nine, while the Green Wave scored four runs on wild pitches en route to an 8-2 victory over the Eagles on Tuesday at Stauss Park.
