Paul Cline, Grand Forks, letter: With professors, 'you get what you pay for'
What the editorial is saying is we need 3 percent of the population to staff our university, but we want to pay only what 85 percent of the population is capable of earning. The old adage of being penny wise and pound foolish comes into play.

Al Rebsch, Grand Forks, letter: ‘Labor dispute’ a misnomer in Crystal case
It is management that locked out the union workers when, by overwhelming majorities, those workers twice refused to submit to the demands. So, shouldn’t the paper properly describe this situation as a management dispute?

The contract that Moorhead-based American Crystal Sugar Co. signed last week with the Bakery Worker’s union at a subsidiary in Sidney, Mont., is similar to the contract the company offered to locked-out union workers at its Red River Valley factories, a company executive said this week. Jerry Hoiseth, Crookston, column: Crystal workers, not growers, took biggest hit
Add it all up, and you’ll get the dollar amount lost by a single worker. Then multiply that by the number of year-round employees. Now, that’s a large sum of money, people. And it’s money that could have and should have gone into local workers’ pockets rather than replacement workers’ bank accounts.
