THE EATBEAT: Noodles & Company offers classic comfort and more
It was a note from a friend, Lauren Hornbaker (LH), which got me moving toward the new Noodles & Company restaurant near Columbia Mall. Like many people, LH likes “mac ’n’ cheese” and considers it a comfort food. At Noodles, she almost always orders the fancy version, the Truffle Mac.

The rest of the Top 10
The rest of the Top 10 stories of 2012 ranged from stories about the shocking deaths of young people, to stories about surprising changes in the community, such as Grand Forks’ only hospital buying its would-be rival in town. A long-standing controversy over UND’s Fighting Sioux nickname appeared to end, while long-standing problems with the Spirit Lake tribe’s child protection system appear to continue into the new year.

A year for enduring pop culture icons to shine
Marilyn Monroe. The Rolling Stones. And Bond — James Bond. What do they have in common? Sure, one’s long gone, and one’s fictional. But all three marked a golden anniversary in 2012. And after a half-century in our pop-culture consciousness, they each displayed a surprisingly enduring appeal.

'Les Misérables': I Dreamed a Dream it Would Be Better
For better or worse, this adaptation of the mega-hit Broadway musical fits neither description, largely because it lives in that kinda-sorta, okay-not-great, this-worked-that-didn’t in-between for which words like “better” and “worse” fall woefully short.
