NCAA MEN'S HOCKEY WEST REGIONAL: No name, no problem
The jerseys may have been different Saturday afternoon, but the same old UND men’s hockey team showed up at the NCAA tournament. In typical fashion for this team, the Sioux grinded their way an eighth-straight win, a 3-1 decision over Western Michigan University in a first-round NCAA West Regional game in front of 9,386 in the Xcel Energy Center.

UND MEN'S HOCKEY: Sioux make it ten straight Final Five appearences with win over Bemidji State
Mario Lamoureux skated off the ice slowly, glanced around the rink and tried to let everything soak in. Finally, the senior captain and Grand Forks native concluded: This is a good way to leave Ralph Engelstad Arena. In his final game in the building, Lamoureux assisted on a goal, blocked a shot with his head and set the tone for UND in its 4-3 win over Bemidji State on Saturday – one that punched a ticket to the program’s 10th straight Western Collegiate Hockey Association Final Five in St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center. UND swept the best-of-three series 2-0.

UND MEN'S HOCKEY: Sioux take down Minnesota State-Mankato 4-2, clinch fourth in WCHA
With a full beard going, Aaron Dell looks like he’s ready for the playoffs. The junior goaltender is playing like it, too. Dell stopped 25 of 27 shots and was spectacular on a number of them to help UND get a 4-2 win over Minnesota State-Mankato on Friday in Ralph Engelstad Arena.

UND MEN'S HOCKEY: Sioux lose chance at sweep in 5-3 loss to Denver
The UND men’s hockey team entered Saturday with a chance to pull off a rare feat — sweep the University of Denver. No Western Collegiate Hockey Association team has done that since Nov. 15, 2008 — a span of 1,197 days and almost four years. But thanks to special teams, the streak lives on. Denver scored three times on the power play, once shorthanded and once just a second after a power play expired en route to a 5-3 win over UND in front of 6,168 fans in Magness Arena.

UND MEN'S HOCKEY: Sioux hold on against Denver for 4-3 win
UND took 21 players to a building and city where nobody on the current team has won a game. But a legion of Sioux fans packed Magness Arena, started cheering and chanting a half an hour before the game and the team made themselves at home. UND outshot Denver 12-0 to start the game and jumped out to a 4-0 lead before holding off a furious University of Denver rally to win 4-3 on Friday night.

UND MEN'S HOCKEY: Not a fun place to play
Five years ago today, Rylan Kaip fired a shot through an Erik Fabian screen and past goalie Peter Mannino. That was the last time a Sioux player has scored an even-strength goal in Magness Arena. UND hasn’t visited this place often in recent years, and when it has, goals and victories haven’t been easy to come by.

UND MENS HOCKEY: Sioux tie Tech and gain point in battle for home ice in playoffs
In the postgame handshake line, Michigan Tech goalie Josh Robinson told Brad Eidsness: “That was fun.” Perhaps the goaltenders were the only ones who could feel that way after an ugly 1-1 tie in which neither goal was shot into the net. On the bright side, UND was able to gain a point and stay three points ahead of Tech in the battle for home ice advantage in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs. The Sioux moved to 17-11-3 overall and 13-10-1 in league play.

UND MEN'S HOCKEY: Top-of-the-line work
With a startling array of injuries and UND’s thin margin for error, the team has looked toward the top line of Brock Nelson, Corban Knight and Danny Kristo perhaps even more than originally projected, and that trio’s ability to produce has often dictated the success of the team.
